Restrained or Not ???

 

 

Near the beginning of the Eighth Day paper accurate translations for the KJV term "solemn assembly" were provided.   This term was used 11 times in the Old Testament. 

 

Lev 23:36  Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein. 

 

 H6116  ats-aw-raw', ats-eh'-reth   From H6113; an assembly, especially on a festival or holiday: - (solemn) assembly (meeting).

H6113  aw-tsar'  A primitive root; to inclose; by analogy to hold back; also to maintain, rule, assemble: - X be able, close up, detain, fast, keep (self close, still), prevail, recover, refrain, X reign, restrain, retain, shut (up), slack, stay, stop, withhold (self).

 The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon entry for #6116 is quite concise.

It is necessary to recognize the idea that to hold back, close up, refrain or restrain is an intrinsic part of the meaning of this term.  It is most interesting that Young's Literal Translation never uses the term "solemn assembly"

Young’s Literal Translation is a very highly accurate translation. The focus of the translation is on sticking as close as possible to the earliest copies of the original manuscripts. Young’s Literal is slower reading because sentence structure and word usage seems a bit awkward at times. It is however highly valuable when we want to check out a vague passage from another
English translation.

Version Information

The Bible text designated YLT is from the 1898 Young's Literal Translation by Robert Young who also compiled Young's Analytical Concordance. This is an extremely literal translation that attempts to preserve the tense and word usage as found in the original Greek and Hebrew writings.

 

The following taken from The Eighth Day paper:

2 Chronicles 7:9 does clear up any question about the fourteen day "feast" mentioned in 1 Kings 8:65. The first seven days were used for the dedication of the alter and the second seven days embody the Feast of Tabernacles. They kept the "eighth day" being a solemn assembly (day of restraint) at the proper time. On the day following the 8th day they were shown being sent to their tents with a glad heart (2Ch 7:10).   2 Chronicles does show a distinct understanding of the sense or spirit of the eighth day at the time of Solomon. (the YLT helps us see the truth). 

 

 

 

 

YLT   2Ch 7:9  And they make on the eighth day a restraint, because the dedication of the altar they have made seven days, and the feast seven days.

2Ch 7:10    And on the twenty and third day of the seventh month he hath sent the people to their tents, rejoicing, and glad in heart, for the goodness that Jehovah hath done to David, and to Solomon, and to Israel His people.

 

On "the last, the great day of the feast" (John 7:37) Jesus was speaking of the Great White Throne Judgment period.  What makes that day depicting that period so great?  The Spirit of God will be poured out so that all humanity may “understand” the salvation that is offered them, accept it and be saved.  The great white throne judgment is pictured by the “great last day “of the Feast of Tabernacles.  It is a GREAT time of salvation and rejoicing.  This then requires us to closely examine the elements that are prophetically left.  One of them being the casting of the unrepentant sinners into the lake of fire and the other being all those who posse the Spirit of God will be brought into eternal life.  As was spoken of in The Eighth Day paper, the joy of becoming the literal children of God will be greatly dampened by the observation of the death of all of the-unrepentant.  Their joy will be "restrained".   These two events finalize the plan that God has revealed in the Bible.  These two events occur on the Eighth Day, the day that follows the time allotted for the Great White Throne Judgment.    

 

A popular Messianic Jew has written a paper regarding the Eighth Day titled "THE ATZERET".  He, unfortunately, left out the principle information that would lead to an understanding of the truth of this period of time.  He completely left out the fact that the sinners will be thrown into the lake of fire at this time.  He expressed a complete lack of concern for the fact that the characteristic nature for the term "solemn assembly" is a "restraint".  From his point of view we can ask ---  was there a restraint or not?  He goes on at length talking about the goodness of the lives of those who will enter eternity.  There was nothing said about the graphic result of the unrepentant.  The "true meaning" of the words "solemn assembly" provides an accurate understanding of the term that is related to the Eighth Day. The KJV translates that term as "solemn assembly".  YLT translates the term as "a restraint", but is incomplete.  A more complete translation for "ats-eh'-reth" would be --- a restrained assembly This fully describes the refraining or the holding back the natural

 emotion for being given eternal life.
